Memories of Feisty

We adopted Feisty from the OKC Animal Shelter because we needed a "pet" for Rocket.  He had WAY too much energy so we wanted to get him a playmate.  We selected a female, a year older than Rocket, and with a name like Feisty we thought we'd found the perfect playmate.  Poor Feisty!  She ended up being his chew toy for the first year or so.  But eventually they became friends and we all lived happily together after that.  Until Lily came into the family, that is!

We let the shelter choose the best fit for us, so this pitiful photo was our first glimpse
of her.  I said, "Well, we're going to find out if we're true pet lovers now!"
It turned out, she actually was very beautiful, it just took awhile for us to see it.

Here I'd had knee surgery so I was trying to work from a makeshift desk.
Here Feisty was contemplating sending out some work email for me.

She had the most amazing eyes, and her top "fang" teeth often hung out of her mouth.

When we saw the movie, "How to Train Your Dragon", we found her famous twin!!   This was tiny area behind the loveseat was the only spot where afternoon sun came
into our house, so it was THE napping spot for her and Eric.  She loved this!

She was a super sweet cat with a lot of fun quirks.

She hated it if you whistled, or spoke Chinese.  If you did it,
she'd get up in your face and meow, trying to drown you out.

Usually she was very well behaved.  I don't think even she knew what happened
to this roll of paper towels.

Our friends gave us this cat house and she loved it.  Here Rocket wants to take his turn in the house, but Feisty says no.

I bought the cats a flat of wheat grass for them to eat and she just
bedded down in it.
This is my favorite picture of her.  This is how she looked at me - with so much love!

Here she is behind my computer monitor, trying to get some attention.

She knew she wasn't allowed on the bar, but she also understood a technicality!

A rare moment of affection between Rocket & Feisty.  They weren't
enemies, but they didn't often cuddle either.  Rocket's fault.

The best place to lay and shed hairs was on my clean laundry.

There were at least 5 cat beds in the house, but the best place to sleep is
wherever it blocks me from my sewing machine.
It must have been a hot day, as Feisty and Rocket are both enjoying the glass-top table.

Young Feisty before she got more meat on her bones.   When I got a treadmill, I let the cats use the giant box as a playhouse.

Here you can almost see her fangs hanging out, they were so cute!  She used to greet me as I came home by jumping up on the bookcase
behind this doorway.  It put her right at eye level - too funny.

I was spreading out this quilt backing, needing it to be perfectly flat
(and clean!)  Feisty was a big help with that.

This is a very important box.  She LOVED this box.  I ended up having to paint it solid
black because it became part of our home furnishings.

Sadly, Feisty had a bad injury that broke her tail, some teeth, and her jaw.  She used to love to
sleep on top of the kitchen cabinets, I think she may have lost a fight with one of the other cats
up there and had a bad fall.

The poor baby had to have her jaw wired shut for weeks after this.

I don't know why, but they left the wires hanging out of her.  It was a bad time for all of us.

Thankfully she recovered really well.  Her tail was never the same and her guts never
worked 100% right again, but she seemed to be happy after her jaw healed up.

One of her favorite things was for me to leave the Eagle Cam playing when I
wasn't using my computer.  I eventually had to stop for fear she was going
to break the monitor.

Here we were packing to move house so she did all she could to block our making changes.

This shows how she kept getting shut into the coat closet.
She blended right in with my scarves!

That's her signature look right there.  She had impressive eyes.   Here she is helping me bind a quilt.

Both her and Rocket loved a good roll of packing paper.  Hours of entertainment.

Here she requests a portion of Eric's lamb chop.  Request denied.

I was trying to set up a new laptop, so of course, that was the best spot for lying down.

Another shot of her sporting her signature look.

Another favorite item - we called this nasty thing, "the weasel."
It was her favorite toy.

And her favorite place to be was on top of our old clothes dryer, which got hot enough to bake bread.

See those pupils?  It was very dangerous to go near her when she was all worked up
on the dryer.

One day I thought I'd see what happened if I let her combine the scratching
post with the hot dryer.  She went out of her mind with happiness.

One of her many quirks was that she loved to eat lettuce.  Here our Japanese friends
were so entertained by this that they took lettuce out to the porch to hand-feed her.

We always made her come inside and get it for herself!

One thing about Feisty, she was terrible at riding in cars.
She yowled from the moment she entered the car until the ride was over.

You might think, "That's no big deal, she's a cat after all." You would
be wrong.  We spent 5 years as snowbirds, moving between Montana
and Oklahoma every six months.   That meant 3 DAYS of listening to
her yowl all day, every day.

I love this picture because you can read the faces of the other cats.
They were as sick of her carrying on as we were.

She liked the cushy life in Montana as much as I do.   Especially this spot - on our screened-in porch, under the lawn chair but still in the sun.

My sweet Feisty, you will be forever missed!
